SRM to host Indian Science Congress
Chennai, Mar 15 : SRM University would host the prestigious Indian
Science Congress (ISC), customarily inaugurated by Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh, on January 3 next year.
SRM University won the race to host the January 3-7 event at its
campus in suburban Kattankulathur after ISC officials inspected the
infrastructure facilities and gave the final nod.
Of the nine universities that had evinced keen interest to host the
mega event, SRM was selected after the ISC officials took into
consideration various parameters, including facilities to conduct
plenary sessions, hostel and housing for delegates.
Talking to reporters here today, SRM University Vice-Chancellor P
Sathyanarayanan and ISC President-Elect K C Pandey said more than
7,000 delegates from India and abroad, including Nobel Laureates,
eminent scientists, faculty members and research scholars from
different Universities, Institutes and National Laboratories, would
participate, explore, understand, analyse and interact on the matters
of Science at the 98th edition of ISC which would return to Chennai
after a gap of 14 years.
Prof Sathyanarayanan said the event would provide a common platform
for the Indian scientists, engineers and technologists of all
categories to share their experiences in scientific advancement after
the Prime Minister unveiled the government's scientific agenda before
the scientific community in his inaugural address.
He said the theme of the event would be 'Quality Education and
Excellence in Scientific Research in Indian Universities.'
